At Balmoral, community isn’t just a word — it’s a way of life.

For more than 40 years, Balmoral has been home to nearly 1,000 residents. People from all walks of life — ex-police officers, nurses, doctors, teachers, tradies, professionals, locals, those from regional Victoria, even from overseas. Sisters, mothers and daughters. Some have even found love and married here at the village.

It may sound like a cliché, but it’s true: Balmoral is far more than just bricks and mortar.

That sense of connection was on full display recently when the village came together to celebrate one of its own — the remarkable Maree Peddington — and the launch of her autobiography.

The community centre was full of residents, family, staff and friends who gathered to honour Maree’s incredible achievement. At 81, after five years of writing, Maree proudly released her deeply personal life story — a book that chronicles her journey from childhood in the 1940s through to her peaceful years of retirement.

Village manager Jody McDonald warmly welcomed everyone and spoke beautifully about Maree’s courage and dedication:

“Maree has documented a rich collection of memories from a life well lived, with all the trials, tribulations, and triumphs that come with it. To write and publish your life story is a truly special thing.”

With humility and humour, Maree thanked the crowd for their support and shared the challenges — and the joy — of becoming a published author in her eighties. Her story clearly resonated, as residents lined up to ask questions, have a chat, and place their book orders.

The afternoon was rounded out with a delicious spread of cakes, tea and laughter — a perfect reflection of what makes Balmoral so special: a community that cares for, supports, and celebrates each other’s milestones.

Congratulations, Maree — your story has inspired us all.
